Early Career and Industry Experience

Johan Hendriks began his career in the diamond recovery industry in 2006 at Flow Electronics. In 2009, he joined Cullinan Diamond Mine, where he rapidly progressed to become the youngest final recovery plant foreman within the Petra Group.

During his time at Cullinan, Johan played a key role in an intensive evaluation of diamond recovery technologies aimed at improving efficiency and performance. As a project leader, he gained extensive hands-on experience in mineral processing systems, recovery methods, and operational optimization—laying the foundation for his future leadership in the industry.

Partnership with Bourevestnik

The technology study at Cullinan concluded that Bourevestnik equipment offered the best results, delivering high throughput, low operating costs, and exceptional sorting accuracy. Johan’s involvement in the project led to a close working relationship with Bourevestnik.

Recognizing his expertise and industry insight, Bourevestnik selected Johan Hendriks to lead its operations in South Africa. This marked the beginning of a strategic partnership that would position BVSA as a leader in X-ray sorting technology (XRT) across the African mining sector.

Growth of BVSA in Africa

Under Johan’s leadership, BVSA (Bourevestnik South Africa) quickly established itself as the sole certified reseller of Bourevestnik equipment in Africa. By combining technical expertise with strong industry relationships, BVSA expanded its footprint across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting mining operations with advanced sorting solutions.

Between 2014 and 2024, BVSA contributed significantly to the revitalization of the diamond mining industry, providing innovative recovery solutions and forming strategic partnerships that improved operational efficiency and profitability for clients.

Expansion of Diamond Recovery Operations

BVSA’s growth included the development of large-scale diamond recovery operations and joint ventures. One of the first major projects was the Nuxdap Diamond Recovery site, located on the South Africa–Namibia border, established in partnership with Hamze Trading.

Building on this success, BVSA developed the Red Plant at Sendelingsdrift, near the Orange River, to support multiple joint ventures operating in the region. Established in June 2020, the plant achieved rapid success, leading to its acquisition by Lower Orange River by October 2020.

These projects highlight BVSA’s ability to deliver high-performance diamond recovery solutions, scale operations effectively, and create long-term value within the mining sector.
